About the MIAA State Volleyball
Tournament:
The seedings and playoff structure for
the state championship tournament were announced on May 23, 2001. Like
other sports in Massachusetts, the state is split into four sections (north,
south, central, west) with the winner of each district going on to
the state semifinals. Playoff games are at the highest seed's site with
the semis and finals at a neutral venue. Each team with a win percentage
of 50% or above makes the tournament. With our 13-7 record, we ended up
as the 8th seed and have a preliminary game against the 9th seed to see
who will play the first seed in the district quarterfinals. Once this preliminary
round is played, there are 8 teams in the playoffs and 1 plays 8, 2 plays
7, 3 plays 6, and 4 plays 5. In boys' volleyball there are approximately
70 teams playing in one division.
